Agents with the Wellton Station Customs and Border Protection (CBP) unit seized 18 pounds of fentanyl, according to a September 26 post on X by Chief Patrol Agent Sean L. McGoffin.

"A vehicle stop along I-8 east of Yuma Tuesday night resulted in the arrest of a U.S. citizen and the discovery of more than 18 pounds of fentanyl. Agents turned the subject and drugs over to the Drug Enforcement Administration," wrote McGoffin in the September 26 post on X.

The Yuma Sector covers approximately 181,670 square miles of primarily desert terrain, with 126 miles of U.S.-Mexico border. The sector was established in December 1954 and included stations in Yuma, Arizona, and Blythe, California. The following year, stations at Somerton, Arizona, and Wellton, Arizona opened in February. According to the Border Patrol webpage focused on the sector and its history, agents in this sector are responsible for Yuma, La Paz, and Mojave Counties in Arizona; the eastern-most areas of Imperial, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties in California; and all of Nevada.
