FOIA Request to Nye County Regarding Absentee Ballots Information for the 2024 General Election on September 25, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Silver State Times have submitted a request under the Nevada Open Records Act § 239 et seq. We are seeking detailed information about absentee ballots mailed out for the November 5, 2024 General Election.
The specific fields we requested include Voter ID, Registration Date, DoB/Age, First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Name Suffix, Registration Status and Reason, County, Precinct, Address, City, State, Phone Number and Email Address. Additionally, we asked for Party Affiliation details and Absentee Status.
To provide a more comprehensive picture of the voting process in this election cycle, we also requested information related to each ballot such as Ballot ID and status (Accepted or Rejected), Election Date for ballots sent out as well as Request Type (Absentee, Mail-In, Early Voting or Overseas). Further data requested includes Ballot Request Date along with Send and Return dates.
Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public in Nevada state area specifically Nye county region. We believe that our role in disseminating information makes us eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
