Washoe County will be the final county to join the State of Nevada Division of Welfare and Supportive Services Child Care Licensing Program (DWSS CCL) on July 1, 2024. With this transition, all child care providers in Nevada will now be under the same statewide licensing and regulatory standards. This move ensures a unified and consistent approach to child care licensing across the state.
Previously, Washoe County managed its child care licensing activities. With this transition, the State of Nevada will ensure a unified and consistent approach to licensing and regulatory processes. The DWSS program has been licensing child care facilities in all other Nevada counties.
“We’re looking forward to this transition,” said Child Care Licensing Program Manager Latisha Brown. “This collaboration will bring clarity for families and child care providers alike. This approach means we’ll all be on the same page, supporting each other in maintaining high standards of care across Washoe County.”
Families enrolled with a licensed child care facility in Washoe County can expect uninterrupted child care services, as administrative updates ensure alignment of Washoe County’s licensing requirements with statewide regulations.
The State and county programs have worked together to ensure a smooth transition. Training sessions for child care providers were offered and covered essential topics such as fire safety preparedness, health inspections, and regulatory compliance.
Parents can access resources through the DWSS CCL licensing homepage, including the ability to search for licensed child care facilities in their area, ensuring families can choose providers that meet their needs and licensing requirements.
For child care providers, resources to support compliance with licensing standards and information on the Silver State Quality Rating & Improvement System (QRIS) are available to enhance quality care within facilities.
