FALLON, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) held events across Churchill County to highlight her efforts to address some of the top issues for Nevadans in rural communities, including tackling the medical provider shortage and increasing affordable housing. She first visited Western Nevada College’s Fallon nursing campus to hear first-hand how $2.3 million in funding she secured for critical upgrades is helping expand and renovate training space for local nurses. Senator Rosen then met with local leaders in Churchill County to hear about the housing challenges in the area and discuss her efforts to help expand access to affordable housing.

“Access to affordable housing and quality medical care are critical for the continued growth and success of communities all across our state. Unfortunately, hardworking families in rural Nevada have been disproportionately impacted by the lack of affordable housing and a dire shortage of medical professionals. ,” said Senator Rosen. “Today I heard first-hand from local leaders about how these issues are impacting Churchill County, and we discussed my efforts to help secure funding to support our nursing workforce in Fallon and  expand access to housing in our state. In the Senate, I will continue fighting to improve the lives of Nevada families by tackling the affordable housing and medical provider shortages.”

Senator Rosen has been taking action to tackle the medical professional and affordable housing crises in our state. Earlier this year, Senator Rosen introduced a package of bipartisan bills aimed at addressing the shortage of doctors and dentists in Nevada and across the country. She  helped introduce the Medical Student Education Authorize Act to expand the Medical Student Education Program that helps support graduate education for physicians in states with the most severe primary care provider shortages, such as Nevada. Senator Rosen has also led her colleagues in requesting full funding for key housing programs that address the affordable housing crisis, including the Supportive Housing program and NeighborWorks America.
