Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-NV) recently proclaimed Dec. 17 as Black Christmas Jubilee Day in the state.
The occasion marks the fourth annual ceremony of the event, which is hosted in conjunction with the Sistas That Paint Foundation and Better Minds Better Communities Inc., according to a proclamation from the governor's office.
"It is the policy and pleasure of the Board of Commissioners to honor and recognize these extraordinary individuals, employees, groups, and/or programs which enrich the lives of many in our community," the proclamation read in part. "The Black Christmas Jubilee is an annual Christmas event to be held every third Saturday of December. It is a time where we bring our community resources together and give the children a Christmas experience they will never forget. Black Christmas Jubilee was founded on the guiding principles of brightening other lives, bearing each other's burdens, easing other's loads, and supplanting empty hearts and lives with generous gifts."
Sisolak said he was sure this year's event would be successful and he was proud that the Sistas That Paint Foundation and Better Minds Better Communities Inc. are providing services that enhance the community.
"We are confident that … new strategies will emerge from like-minded leaders and members to help better serve the needs of the children in our community," Sisolak said.
