How Do Mental Health Services for Teens Work?

Adolescents frequently need help for mental health and substance abuse problems as they grow, so reaching out for support isn’t a sign of parenting problems. Instead, utilizing mental health services for teens is often the best way you can help your child overcome some of the challenges they are facing in their life.

What Are Mental Health Services for Teens?

Mental health services for teens target a teenager’s unique issues and needs. Through inpatient, outpatient, or partial hospitalization (PHP) programs, adolescents can get support as they work through mental health disorders, childhood trauma, and other difficulties. With the right program and support, your teen doesn’t have to feel alone as they go through their treatment process.

Partial Hospitalization Programs for Teens (PHP)

This is the most structured option for outpatients, which provides more medical oversight. Therapy takes place for up to six hours each day, so you can get more support than in IOPs.

Because the program is still outpatient, it’s possible for patients to keep up with a relatively normal schedule outside of their treatment program. Beverages, snacks, and lunch are provided during treatment.

What to Expect from Outpatient Mental Health Programs for Teens

When you sign up for mental health services for youth, here is what can expect from your treatment.

Custom Plans

Each person is different, so you need a program to match your unique needs. At Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital, we work with each patient to figure out the best therapies and treatments.

Family Participation

Mental health disorders can impact every family member, so we want to treat the family holistically. We encourage family therapy and participation because it can significantly help with the individual’s healing.

Age-Specific Programming

Mental health services are modified for this age group because teens need age-specific care.

Evaluations

Consistent evaluations are important because they help patients and families understand how well someone is doing. If a specific therapy isn’t effective, an evaluation will help us understand how we need to make changes.

Food Options

Teens are famous for their eating habits. We know how difficult it is to focus on therapy when you're distracted by a growling stomach. Because of this, we offer food and beverages during our programs.

Mental Health Services for Teens in Nevada

As Nevada’s only PHP for teens, Reno Behavioral Healthcare Hospital offers a range of options for adolescents. Among our other mental health services for teenagers, we offer trauma-informed care, group therapy, socialization therapy, recreation therapy, medication management, and expressive therapy. We can help teens improve their interpersonal skills, build family relationships, focus on their schoolwork, and develop their self-confidence.
