Gov. Steve Sisolak on June 27 appointed Maria Gall to the Eighth Judicial District Court, Dept 9.
According to a press release shared by the Nevada government, the assignment doesn’t vacate the judicial vacancy left behind by Cristina D. Silva. President Joe Biden appointed Silva.
“Judge Gall has extensive civil litigation experience in both state and federal courts in New York, Kentucky and Nevada,” Sisolak said, according to the release.
The Nevada Judicial Selection Commission convened for a meeting on June 9, according to the release. The meeting included interviewing and meeting two applicants for the position before sharing its recommendation with Sisolak to interview, according to the release. Nevada attorneys that held over 10 years of legal experience and 2 years as a Nevada resident were fully qualified and encouraged to apply.
“I’m proud that she will be taking that knowledge to the Eighth Judicial District Court, Department 9 where I have no doubt that she will serve Nevadans with expertise, integrity, and fairness,” Sisolak said, according to the release.
The release states that Gall has worked as an attorney in the Eighth Judicial District Court in Clark County, the Second Judicial District Court in Washoe County and others.
The release states that in order for someone to practice with a full appointment, the judge appointed must run for office in the upcoming Nov. 8 general election.
