The White House recently announced that 20 internet providers across the country, including all those serving Nevada households, will help minimize costs for consumers and increase internet speeds.

Between the various funds that the American Rescue Plan has and other federal money available, Nevada is investing more than $500 million in high-speed internet initiatives, according to a press release from Gov. Greg Sisolak. In April, the Interim Finance Committee authorized more than $200 million for the Office of Science, Innovation and Technology to find ways to universally access high-speed internet access for all Nevadans. That federal money will help install fiber in nearly every community in the state, including tribal communities.

“I applaud the White House’s commitment, with support from Nevada’s federal delegation, to increase internet access for more residents – across the country and right here in Nevada,” Sisolak said, according to the release. “This initiative aligns with the work we are doing here in Nevada to bring high-speed internet access to every corner of the state.

According to the release, OSIT estimates that roughly 450,000 homes in Nevada are either not serviced or unattended, as in they don't have a broadband connection that scales at speeds that will meet the needs of consumers. According to the release, the Affordable Connectivity Program will allow tens of millions of American households to lower internet service costs by a maximum of $30 per month.
