A new pedestrian-activated flashing light crosswalk has been installed at an intersection near the Las Vegas Strip.

Commissioner Tick Segerblom was on hand to activate the pedestrian-activated flashing lights near the Boulevard Mall, on Katie Avenue, east of Maryland Parkway, and between the Boulevard Mall and the Best on the Boulevard shopping center down the street from Orr Middle School, according to a county news release.

“With popular shopping centers and a school nearby, this is a busy area for pedestrians," Segerblom said in the release. "This new addition will make the crossing safer and help prevent accidents."

Pedestrians can utilize the lights by pushing a button that will notify motorists that they need to stop so that they can cross the road, the release said.

Clark County said that reports had notified them that during busy hours over 50 people can cross the road at this area with the pedestrian-activated flashing lights located within Commission District E, which Segerblom represents.

“Clark County is a dynamic and innovative organization dedicated to providing top-quality service with integrity, respect and accountability," the county said in the release. "With jurisdiction over the world-famous Las Vegas Strip and covering an area the size of New Jersey, Clark is the nation’s 11th-largest county and provides extensive regional services to 2.3 million citizens and 45.6 million visitors a year (2019)."
