County of Elko recently issued the following announcement.
YOUR'RE INVITED TO A COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKSHOP
Elko County is looking for input on your needs and desires for Elko County's public health options and opportunities.
Appetizers, Drinks, and Games are included
Date and Time:
December 8, 2021
5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Venue:
Dalling Hall • 600 Commercial Street
Doors Open at 5:00 PM • Presentations Begin at 5:30 PM
This workshop will provide the opportunity for the County to share information about what public health services are currently available and what is needed in our county regarding community health, including the opportunity to receive a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Workforce Grant. This grant would allow Elko County to explore the possibility of creating a County Health Department.
The Workshop will lead off with an educational presentation followed by a brainstorming session.
Expert Guest Speakers: Dr. John Packham, Gerald Ackerman, and Marena Works will discuss, in broad strokes, a picture of what Health Departments can do for a community and how they can be built.
This workshop is funded by the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services through the Public Health Regional Partnership Project with the goal of providing public health services across the rural counties of Nevada.
Your input is very important in moving forward in addressing the health needs of our community members. The Elko County Commissioners will be discussing and considering the potential of applying for a grant to move forward with a health department if that is what the public wants at their December 15, 2021 Commission Meeting.
