Boulder City Goes Virtual for National Night Out

Police

City of Boulder recently issued the following announcement.

Boulder City Police and Fire Departments invite residents to celebrate National Night Out (NNO) October 5th safely and virtually in their neighborhoods and homes this year. The departments have launched videos to show residents some of the popular stops for kids: the Boulder City Fire Department Ladder (Engine 121) and Police Department Mounted Unit.

The decision came to cancel the in-person NNO event as cases of COVID increased and fully-vaccinated rates remain under 60 percent for residents.  “We are still gravely concerned about our residents – especially elderly and immunocompromised,” said Boulder City Police Chief Tim Shea. “In addition to protecting residents, I also have staff concerns. As a small department, we don’t have the manpower in public safety to chance any exposures to the virus.”

“These are tough decisions, and I assure you they are made with health and wellness as our top priority,” said Chief Will Gray of Boulder City Fire Department. “The virtual visits give everyone an opportunity to learn about facets of public safety while keeping residents and our staff safe.”

Digital Technician Holly Webb and Communications Specialist Carly Poindexter worked to create the videos, now posted on YouTube and broadcasting on BCTV starting Thursday, September 30:

“I applaud Chiefs Shea and Gray for their diligence in this matter,” said City Manager Taylour Tedder. “I truly appreciate the work of Public Safety, as well as the efforts of our communications staff, to share some of the biggest attractions we have at National Night Out. Hopefully next year the pandemic is far behind us and we can celebrate in person.”

The City is extending COVID testing through October. More information on that can be found here: www.bcnv.org/COVID-19.
