A survey of over 1,000 likely general election voters found that Republicans put more trust in state legislators, while Democrats are more trusting of federal officials.
The survey, conducted by The Trafalgar Group in partnership with the Convention of States Action, asked the participants of the poll who they thought was most effective at "defending the rights and promote the issues" they care about. Respondents to the survey were given five options to choose from: President Biden and the Democrats in Congress, Republicans in Congress, Democratic governors and state legislators, Republican governors and state legislators and "Not sure."
Out of the Democrats surveyed, 63.5% said they believe President Joe Biden and Congressional Democrats were "most effective" in defending their rights, while 14.2% chose Democratic governors and state legislators. Just 7.6% of the Democrats in the survey selected Republican governors and state legislators, while 4.9% chose Republicans in Congress. Nearly 10% of the Democrats surveyed responded "Not sure."
Out of the Republicans who participated in the survey, 63.1% reported that they have the most trust in Republican governors and state legislators, while 21.7% chose Republicans in Congress. Only 8.6% of Republicans said they had faith in Biden and the Democrats in Congress, and only 0.8% selected Democratic governors and state legislators. "Not sure" was the response of 5.8% of this group.
Voters with no party affiliation or who selected "Other" as their party were split, with 41.1% responding in favor of Biden and the Democrats, and 51.6% selecting one of the Republican options. Of the independent voters, 30.3% chose Republican governors and state legislators as the most effective working for the issues they care about.
Nevada has three Democrat representatives, one Republican representative and two Democrat senators in Congress, according to Ballotpedia. Nevada voted for Biden in the 2020 presidential election.
