Nevada Assemblyman Jim Wheeler (R-Minden) has condemned Wednesday’s violence, saying all offenders should be brought to book.
“Anyone causing violence in the Capitol should be immediately arrested and prosecuted. Same standard as those who caused violence in our cities before. Let our representatives do Their work,” he said on Twitter.
People aired various sentiments on Wheeler’s tweet, with one @Jetskionthemoon siding with Wheeler.
“What you saw was just the start of what's to come if our officials don't take responsibility and take steps to remedy the situation. It may look bad today, but tomorrow it will be peanuts when it happens consistently due to incompetence,” he said.
Meanwhile, Nevada lawmakers and leaders have strongly condemned U.S Capitol violence, calling on immediate action to be taken. Republican Rep. Mark Amodei called the protest shameful, and that “history was made for all the wrong reasons.”
Attorney General Aaron Ford noted that the events at the Capitol were terrifying and that he was praying for the nation on the dark day. Republican Nevada State Sen. Ben Kieckhefer also called for the prosecution of such criminals.
President Donald Trump said on Thursday that there would be an orderly transition on Inauguration Day. He also condemned the violence and called for peace.
Protesters stormed the Capitol Building and were able to make their way into the building, where they ended up shattering window panes in doors and eventually made their way into the House chamber. Representatives and senators were evacuated from the building and many took to Twitter to announce their safety.
On the day of protest, over 50 rioters were arrested as confirmed by D.C. Metropolitan Police. It wasn’t until late that night and early into the morning of Jan. 7 when lawmakers could continue the counting of the votes. Biden was officially declared the winner after 3 a.m.
