A letter was sent to the U.S. Department of Justice last week alleging a link between Pakistan and the voter system in Nevada.

The letter was sent by Catherine Engelbrecht, the president of True the Vote, to Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers with the U.S. Department of Justice.

“I write to inform you of a national security matter we were made aware of while accessing voting records through our account with the State of Nevada,” Engelbrecht wrote.

Engelbrecht wrote that after making a request with the Nevada Secretary of State, they were provided a downloadable file via email.

“When it arrived, I was shocked to see the inclusion of another email address in the CC line,” Engelbrecht wrote. “The address was waqas@kavtech.net. Waqas Butt is the CEO of Kavtech Solutions Ltd. Kavtech is a Pakistani owned company, located in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan, with ties to Pakistani intelligence, military, and the interior.”

Engelbrecht believes that this person being sent an email containing voter registration information of Nevada residents is a breach within the state’s email system. She believes the email should not have also been sent to the owner of the Pakistani company.

“Obviously, the problems that such a breach may be evidence include access to at least the voter registration information of Nevada residents,” Engelbrecht wrote. “At worst, it could reveal a breach that gives a foreign power access to not only the State of Nevada’s systems, but also to the email systems of anyone whom the State communicates with via email.”

Engelbrecht sent the email last Thursday to Demers.

The email was sent to Engelbrecht from the secretary of state on Nov. 29 at 9:54 p.m. That email provided report results that were generated and then compiled into a downloadable document.
