The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) released its latest monthly Jobs Report, revealing ongoing challenges for small businesses in filling job vacancies. Despite a positive outlook from the recent Optimism Index, over a third of small business owners report difficulties in hiring, particularly in transportation, construction, and manufacturing sectors.

Tray Abney, NFIB's Nevada State Director, commented on the situation: “What the latest report seems to show is that although a small-business recovery might be underway, it remains tentative.” He emphasized the importance of legislative support for small businesses as vital to both state and national economies.

The report provides a nationwide perspective on NFIB-member small-business owners. Typically employing around 10 people with annual gross sales near $500,000, these businesses reflect broader economic trends. The upcoming release of the Small Business Optimism Index is scheduled for February 11.

Bill Dunkelberg, NFIB Chief Economist, noted that while there is optimism about economic direction, employment remains challenging: “Small business owners are certainly feeling hopeful about the direction of the economy. However, employment remains a top concern as Main Street owners continue to face challenges in finding qualified employees to fill their open positions.”

Key findings from the Jobs Report include:

- A decrease in hiring efforts among 52% of small business owners.

- Forty-seven percent reported difficulty finding qualified applicants.

- A net 18% plan to create new jobs soon.

- Compensation adjustments were made by 33% of business owners.
