Sam Brown, a U.S. Senate Candidate from Nevada, has criticized President Biden’s border policies, which are supported by his opponent, incumbent Senator Jacky Rosen. He described these policies as a "slap in the face" to Nevadans. This statement came after Department of Homeland Security (DHS) documents revealed that Las Vegas was one of the top destinations for inadmissible aliens through a migrant parole program. Brown made this statement to the Silver State Times on May 15.
"While Americans struggle to make ends meet, Joe Biden and Jacky Rosen have flown in hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants into Nevada and other major cities throughout the United States," said Brown, Nevada U.S. Senate Candidate. "It's a slap in the face to our laws and it puts America's security at risk. Nevada needs common sense leadership that will put a stop to this open border chaos and finish President Trump's border wall."
According to documents obtained by the House Homeland Security Committee from DHS via subpoena, from January to August of 2023, approximately 200,000 immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela and Nicaragua (CHNV) were flown to 50 cities across the United States. The Committee's press release in mid-October 2023 stated that there were 1.6 million "inadmissible aliens" waiting to join the parole program. The documents clarified: "All individuals paroled into the United States are, by definition, inadmissible, including those paroled under the CHNV Processes." During this period, Miami received 91,821 immigrants; Ft. Lauderdale welcomed 60,461 immigrants; New York City took in 14,827 immigrants; and Las Vegas received 483 immigrants through the program.
Rep. Mark Green, Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee expressed his concerns about these findings. "These documents expose the egregious lengths Secretary Mayorkas will go to ensure inadmissible aliens reach every corner of the country," Green said in a press release. He further labeled the CHNV parole program as an "unlawful sleight of hand used to hide the worsening border crisis from the American people." Data from October 2023 indicated that there were still 1.6 million migrants awaiting entry through this program.
Brown is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and served in the U.S. Army, including a deployment to Afghanistan. He was wounded by an IED explosion during his military service. According to Ballotpedia, he is currently running in the Nevada Republican primary for U.S. Senate.
