In our ongoing commitment to keep citizens and media informed, we’ve summarized the outcomes of a few key agenda items from today’s Regular Meeting of the Reno City Council. Staff Reports with more information are linked to below:

B.7 & B.8 - Teglia’s Paradise Park improvement project

The playground and restroom at Teglia’s Paradise Park are in need of replacement and upgrades, and have been purchased with Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. Council approved an award of contract to Spanish Springs Construction, Inc. for the Teglia’s Paradise Park Playground and Restroom Project in an amount not to exceed $1,322,900. Council also approved the use of additional funding from the Residential Construction Tax District 3 for the project in the amount of $600,000. B.9 - Agreement with DETR to Offer Lobby Food Services at Reno City Hall

Council approved a two-year interlocal agreement with Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) for the operation of lobby food services at Reno City Hall. DETR will contract with an operator to provide a manned market coffee shop that will offer coffee, drinks and a variety of healthy packaged snacks. In addition, the shop will also serve an array of freshly pre-made and made-to-order sandwiches, wraps and salads. The market is expected to open in May 2023. 

B.11 - Reno-Tahoe International Airport & Fire Department Agreement

Council approved an Interlocal Agreement with Reno-Tahoe International Airport Authority (RTAA) for the City of Reno Fire Department to provide fire inspection services to be billed at a fully burdened hourly rate. Managing compliance and reducing the risk of emergency situations by always being prepared and ensuring facilities are meeting compliance in order to maximize the safety of our firefighters and our citizens forms the core of fire prevention services.

B.12 - Donation to Support the Sons and Daughters of Erin

Council approved a resolution to donate $1,000 from Vice Mayor Reese’s Council Discretionary Funds to the Sons and Daughters of Erin to support their mission to revive, foster and promote Irish cultural events, interests, and sentiments.

B.13 - Donation to Support Baby’s Bounty

Council approved a resolution to donate $1,000 from Vice Mayor Reese’s Council Discretionary Funds to Baby’s Bounty to support the expansion of their operations to northern Nevada and their mission to support and empower at-risk families by providing education and the essential tools to ensure a good start for every baby.

C.1 - Hoge Road Annexation

Council denied a request for annexation of one parcel totaling ±3 acres, located northwest of Hoge Road ±670 feet west of its intersection with Mason Road. The subject site is located within the City of Reno Sphere of Influence and has a City Master Plan land use designation of Unincorporated Transition (UT) and zoning designation of Unincorporated Transition – 5 acres (UT-5). 

D.2 - Budget and Capital Improvement Plan for the Ballroom Facility

Council accepted the Downtown Management Company, LLC representative's marketing plan, capital expenditure schedule, and annual operating budget for the ballroom facility for fiscal year 2023. The marketing plan, capital expenditure schedule, and annual budget are available for review.

D.3 - Sewer Capacity at Reno Stead Water Reclamation Facility

Council approved staff’s recommendation to increase the amount of sewer capacity at Reno Stead Water Reclamation Facility (RSWRF) from the flow shave project from 225,000 gallons to 350,000 gallons, reserving 150,000 gallons for future Council consideration. RSWRF’s average flow for 2022 was 1.9 MGD whereas the total flow allocated to date is 2.194 MGD.
