The state’s daycare sector is expected to grow thanks in large part through grant-funded projects from the American Rescue Plan Act.
According to a press release shared by the Nevada government, over 2,000 daycare positions at 18 child care centers are expected to be created. Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-NV) had previously stated a $30 million investment was made in May as part of his $160 million childcare initiative.
“Child care providers do critical work every day for our families and for our economy statewide – this program will help them better serve their communities and build stronger early education centers,” said Sisolak in the release. “Nevadans deserve the opportunity to go to work or get an education knowing their children are safe and have every opportunity to achieve.”
Funds will be utilized to develop new daycares by covering initial costs, along with renovating older facilities to expand operations. Child care programs who applied were scored on a number of categories including location and expected need of the region.
According to Karissa Loper Machado, agency manager for Child Care at the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services: “Many Nevada families and communities need quality child care so they can go to work, attend job training or finish their education. This short-term investment will create long-term access for Nevada families and shows Nevada is dedicated to supporting early childhood educators.”
