Las Vegas city officials are welcoming nominations for the ninth annual African American Trailblazer Service Awards.

According to a news release shared by the Las Vegas government, the city will honor citizens in the area who made significant contributions to the region with the: Entrepreneur Award; Tyrone Thompson Emerging Leader Award; Community, Activism and Politics Award; Educator Award; and Spiritual Community Award.

“These awards recognize individuals who are going above and beyond to lead the community forward with their individual efforts and achievements,” Councilman Cedric Crear said in the release. “Take a few minutes now to nominate those deserving of recognition.”

Those interested in nominating someone can do so at lasvegasnevada.gov/trailblazeraward with one nomination per person. The entire form must be completed electronically to be considered, and nominations will be accepted until Nov. 4 at 5 p.m. Residents cannot nominate themselves.

Additionally, the city will hold an award ceremony on Jan. 19, from 9 to 11:30 a.m., in the Council Chambers on the second floor in acknowledgement of Black History Month. For 44 years, Las Vegas has held celebrations in honor of Black History Month.
