Pro-abortion Democrats, including Sen. Cortez Masto (D-NV), are waging a "war against pregnancy centers," Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, said.
“Pro-abortion Democrats’ war against pregnancy centers is fueling a wave of violence and vandalism toward pro-life advocates," she said. "The profit-driven abortion industry’s real fear is that they are vastly outnumbered by community-based nonprofits that provide real options for women and families. Seventy-three percent of both rank-and-file Democrats and pro-choice voters are supportive of pregnancy centers. Senator Cortez Masto and other Democrats pushing abortion on demand until birth, paid for by taxpayers, are radically out of touch. Our ground team is working to reach millions of voters at their doors across America to educate them on Democrats’ extremism.”
Cortez Masto recently announced legislation called the "Stop Anti-Abortion Disinformation (SAD) Act" that the senator said would "crackdown" on crisis pregnancy centers in the U.S. and stop them from promoting "misinformation" about abortion services, the senator said in a news release.
The SAD Act would "prohibit deceptive or misleading advertising related to the provision of abortion services and to collect penalties from organizations in violation of the law" states the press release.
Masto has been a longtime supporter of abortion rights. She "raised the alarm" about the recent U.S. Supreme Court's recent ruling in the Dobbs case overturning Roe v. Wade and has worked with Democrat colleagues to codify Roe into law.
“Anti-abortion crisis care centers routinely mislead vulnerable women about the services they provide, delaying care and jeopardizing women’s health," the senator said in a news release. "As women continue to seek abortion services in Nevada, it’s crucial that these fake clinics are held accountable.” The press release argues that women seek out these crisis pregnancy centers looking for "reproductive health care" but are frequently discouraged and that the centers give "disseminating inaccurate, misleading, and stigmatizing information about abortion and contraception."
Dannenfelser is president of the Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, a group that hopes "to end abortion by electing national leaders and advocating for laws that save lives, with a special calling to promote pro-life women leaders" according to its website. Dannenfelser's efforts at SBA include helping "elect the largest incoming class of pro-life congresswomen in history, with 19 new pro-life women and 30 total serving in the U.S. House of Representatives – more than double the previous record."
Dannenfelser cited the wave of violence and attacks against crisis pregnancy centers, or "pro-life" centers. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America put together a list of attacks on churches, pregnancy centers, and pro-life advocates. In one example, five pregnancy centers were vandalized, according to Fox News.
Dannenfelser also argued that 73% of "Democrats and pro-choice voters" support pregnancy centers, according to an SBA List poll. The poll was taken in July, after the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America issued a memorandum on the poll concluding that "these centers, which provide critical assistance to mothers without considering abortion, find strong support across party lines."
Dannenfelser has made previous comments on Cortez Masto and Democrats' attempt to target pregnancy centers.
SBA Pro-Life American is reaching out to pregnancy centers in Nevada. It tweeted "Our Nevada field team has visited more than 55,000 voters to educate them about current senator Catherine Cortez Masto’s abortion extremism and to urge them to vote for LIFE."
