Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-NV) recently signed an executive order that will safeguard women coming to state for reproductive medical care.

According to a news release shared by the Nevada government, the executive order comes on the heels of the Supreme Court decision to overturn abortion rights in Roe v. Wade.

“Reproductive health care is a basic human right, and Nevada stands firm in its commitment to ensuring there is safe and equitable access for Nevadans and anyone seeking refuge from the restrictive laws in their state,” said Governor Sisolak in the release.

Nevada now joins the chorus of states that have aligned to denounce the court’s decision to open up criminal prosecution for those wanting an abortion, along with healthcare professionals who provide reproductive services.

Sisolak said that the state will continue to be a safe haven for women seeking an abortion.

“No one should be punished for providing or receiving necessary medical care, including abortions, contraception and other reproductive health care services,” he added.

The executive order calls for no information to be shared with other states that are seeking to prosecute women who have an abortion in Nevada, cover health care workers who provide reproductive medical services and calls for no extradition to states that desire to criminal charges regarding abortion access, according to the release.
