Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-NV) has joined forces with advocates for women’s reproductive rights amidst the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the U.S. Supreme Court.
Sisolak backed Planned Parenthood and other like minds at Las Vegas’ Culinary Academy in speaking up for abortion access, a recent press release from the governor’s office said.
“The Supreme Court’s decision will jeopardize the lives and well-being of millions of Americans,” Sisolak said in the release. “Abortion is a fundamental human right, and needs to be safe and accessible. I want to reassure all women and those seeking reproductive healthcare in Nevada – As long as I’m governor, we will fight to protect your reproductive freedom.”
Numerous nonprofit and advocacy organizations were on hand at the press conference that advocated women’s ability to choose reproductive freedom. Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) also lent her support, along with Nevada PLAN, One APIA, Wild West Access Fund, Somos Votantes, Battle Born Progress and Nevada Now.
“Today, I signed an Executive Order to strengthen protections for reproductive freedom in Nevada,” Sisolak said in a June 28 tweet. “Reproductive health care is a basic human right -- We are committed to ensuring safe access to abortions for women seeking refuge from the restrictive laws in their state.”
