The 2021 honorees for the Historic Westside Legacy Park have been announced.
As construction work continues at 1600 Mariah Drive, which is the location of the park, very close to the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Lake Mead Boulevard, the names of 36 leaders to be honored were announced. The park is a partnership between Clark County and the city of Las Vegas.
“What an honor to be able to add new leaders and icons to the Historic Westside Legacy Park,” Las Vegas Councilman Cedric Crear said, according to a release from the City of Las Vegas and Clark County.
Crear and Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II announced the second group of honorees to be enshrined at the Historic Westside Legacy Park.
“I look forward to being able to soon stroll through this park and experience the history of the Westside and remember all who have paved the way for future generations in the community,” Crear said, KLAS reported.
The Historic Westside Legacy Park is a place to learn how past generations worked for the Westside.
“The honorees added to the Historic Westside Legacy Park fought righteously for the social and economic benefit of our community,” McCurdy said in the release. “This transformative park will memorialize these change agents and preserve their legacies for future generations.”
Community volunteers selected the honorees by submitting nominees and voting.
