A Las Vegas Aces player is one of five players named to the 2021 All-WNBA Second Team by the WNBA earlier this month.
NBA Africa named all five on its Twitter page, listing the Las Vegas area player first.
"The 2021 All-WNBA Second Team consists of Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson (177 points), Minnesota Lynx center Sylvia Fowles (148), Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale (134), Washington Mystics forward Tina Charles (118) and Chicago Sky guard Courtney Vandersloot (111)," NBA Africa said in its Oct. 15 Twitter post.
The Twitter post came the same day the WNBA announced its 2021 All-WNBA First and Second teams.
Wilson led the Aces to its second-best WNBA record at 24-8 and she was the No. 2 two seed during the playoffs, according to an Ace's news release. Wilson was sixth in the league in scoring (18.6), eighth in rebounding (9.3), 21st in assists (3.1), 11th in blocked shots (1.25) and 10th in free throw percentage (.876).
All-WNBA First and Second teams voting happened after the regular season, according to the Aces' news release. Players were selected by position, receiving five points for each First Team vote and three points for each Second Team vote. Players receiving multiple position votes slotted at the position in which they received the most votes.
News that Wilson had scored a spot on the second team came about a week prior to the Ace's disappointing Game 5 semifinal loss to the Phoenix Mercury, a similar showing against the Connecticut Sun last year.
"Five games, I don’t know what it is but it must be like a semifinal five-game thing with us, because we went to five games with Conn last year and five games with Phoenix this year," Wilson said during a Tea With A & Phee podcast. "But it was a hard-fought series. I feel like we could've done better in some games and it put us in a bad situation."
The WNBA's announcement about the second team also came about a year after Wilson won the WNBA Most Valuable Player award following her third season. At the time, Wilson received 43 of 47 first-place votes and 458 total points from a national sportswriter and broadcaster panel.
Wilson was the Aces' first overall pick in WNBA Draft 2018 following her time playing for the University of South Carolina. She was a 2017-18 consensus National Player of the Year, a four-time All-America selection and a three-time SEC Player of the Year.
