The Nevada Department of Agriculture (NDA), in collaboration with Made in Nevada, has awarded the 2024 Nevada Agriculture, Food and Beverage Small Business of the Year to Yellow Petal Flower Farm. The award ceremony took place in Sparks, Nevada, with Senator Robin Titus and representatives from Governor Joe Lombardo and Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony’s offices present.

“Yellow Petal Flower Farm truly represents the spirit of small business in the agriculture, food and beverage industry,” said NDA Director J.J. Goicoechea. “From putting seeds into soil, to nurturing their community just as they do their crops, they are a reflection of the important role these small businesses have in Nevada.”

This accolade highlights the significant contributions made by small businesses within the state’s agriculture sector. Yellow Petal Flower Farm was chosen from a pool of 22 nominations for its outstanding service to Churchill County. It is recognized for supporting fellow farmers, creating consumer access to local products, and exemplifying Nevada’s agricultural potential.

“This award is more than a recognition-it’s a profound validation of our journey, our vision, and the community that has embraced us,” expressed Kim Urso, owner of Yellow Petal Flower Farm. “It stands as a testament to the love and care we’ve poured into our farm, but even more so, is a tribute to everyone who has walked this path with us-family, friends, mentors and every visitor who has found joy and peace among the flowers.”

The NDA aims to preserve and promote agriculture across Nevada through its five divisions: Administrative Services, Animal Industry, Measurement Standards, Food and Nutrition, and Plant Health and Compliance. With 225 employees working under a $288 million budget, the department ensures regulatory compliance within agriculture and food manufacturing sectors while also managing food distribution programs.
