The University of Nevada, Las Vegas men’s tennis team lost 4-0 to Boise State on April 18 at the Appleton Tennis Center, closing out their regular season. The match saw the Rebels drop to a 13-7 overall record and finish tied for third place in the Mountain West Conference with a league mark of 4-3, while Boise State improved to 20-8 and also finished conference play at 4-3.

This result is significant as it determines final seeding for the upcoming Mountain West Men’s Tennis Championship. Both teams had similar records going into this matchup, making it an important contest for postseason positioning.

Boise State took an early lead by winning two out of three doubles matches. Marko Maksimovic and Illia Maksymchuk gave UNLV a win on court two with a score of 6-3 over Stewart Aronson and Filip Soderqvist, but the Broncos clinched the doubles point by winning a tiebreaker in the deciding top-court match. In singles play, although three UNLV players won their first sets, none were able to secure victory before Boise State claimed straight-set wins in three matches to secure the overall win. At number one singles, Ilia Snitari led Avery Tallakson when play was halted.

The loss wraps up UNLV’s regular season campaign ahead of postseason competition. The team will next compete in the first round of the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Tennis Championship starting Wednesday at Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas.

Looking ahead, both teams will seek strong performances as they enter tournament play with hopes of extending their seasons.
