The University Libraries at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, together with the Teaching and Learning Commons and the UNLV Food Pantry, launched a Food for Fines program in December. The initiative aimed to collect nonperishable food items to support students in need while offering undergraduate students an opportunity to have their overdue library fines forgiven.

During the two-month campaign, more than 500 nonperishable items were collected. As a result, all overdue fines for undergraduate students were eliminated.

Programs like this are designed to address food insecurity among college students and encourage community participation within university campuses.
