The UNLV Hustlin’ Rebels defeated the Fresno State Bulldogs 11-6 on May 8 after a strong comeback in the final innings at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.
The game was notable for a late surge by UNLV, who scored nine unanswered runs across the seventh and eighth innings to secure the win. The Rebels had trailed 4-2 before this rally. “Behind a pair of home runs from Nin Burns II and a game-breaking seventh inning, the UNLV Hustlin’ Rebels stormed back for an 11-6 victory over the Fresno State Bulldogs on Friday night at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium,” according to the team.
Nin Burns II opened scoring for UNLV with a solo home run in the second inning. Gunnar Myro added another run in the third, scoring off Marcos Rosales’s double. Starter Parker Dillhoff held Fresno State scoreless through four innings before they responded with runs in the fifth and sixth, including a three-run homer by Sky Collins that gave Fresno State its first lead of the night.
After falling behind, UNLV responded in their half of the seventh inning with key hits from Myro, Rosales, Jonny Rodriguez, and Drew Barragan. Barragan’s two-run double and subsequent run put UNLV ahead 6-4 before Burns II hit his second home run of the night. In the eighth inning, Rodriguez hit a grand slam to extend their lead further.
Jase Evangelista pitched two scoreless innings out of relief to stabilize after Fresno State’s rally. Although Fresno State attempted another comeback in the ninth with RBIs from Mikey Pickett and Faust, UNLV closed out for an eleven-to-six victory.
Several players achieved personal milestones during this game: Barragan extended his on-base streak to 48 games; Burns II reached eight home runs this season; Rodriguez notched five RBIs; Rosales recorded his nineteenth multi-hit game; Myro continued an eleven-game hitting streak; Dillhoff struck out nine batters or more for his fifth start this season; Evangelista secured his third save.
