Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor Krishna Pagilla has been chosen to serve on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Science Advisory Board, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced on April 17.
Pagilla will join 36 other scientists on the board, which is responsible for advising EPA leadership as they pursue their mission of protecting human health and the environment. His appointment highlights ongoing efforts to include academic expertise in federal environmental decision-making.
Pagilla previously served on the EPA’s Science Advisory Board during both President Trump’s first administration and President Biden’s administration. Since joining the University of Nevada, Reno in 2015, he has played a key role in founding the Nevada Water Innovation Institute. The institute collaborates with local and regional agencies to address water challenges. Pagilla currently serves as its director and has also chaired the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department.
His research centers on water reclamation and reuse, water treatment processes, and exploring how water systems interact with energy use and resources. His scientific work has been cited thousands of times by peers in related fields.
The appointment reflects a continued emphasis by federal agencies to draw upon experienced researchers for guidance on complex environmental issues.
