The University of Nevada, Reno announced on April 20 that its fourth annual Giving Day event, held on April 9, raised more than $1.1 million from over 1,900 donors, with contributions still being counted.

The fundraising effort supports scholarships, student competitions and events, campus programs, and a variety of university priorities. The university said the outpouring of support will benefit students and faculty across multiple areas.

Several challenges during Giving Day encouraged participation by offering additional funding through the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation. The Honors College received the top prize in the Top Colleges & Schools Challenge for having gifts from the greatest number of individual donors and was awarded $5,000. The College of Engineering and School of Public Health tied for second place with $3,000 each. A donation to the Student Emergency Fund from New Hampshire completed the 50-State Challenge and unlocked $5,000 for student scholarships.

In other challenges, Wolf Pack Taiko won first place in the ASUN Clubs and Club Sports Challenge with a $2,500 award; Filipino Culture and Language Club earned $1,500; Women’s Club Lacrosse received $1,000. More than 400 faculty and staff participated in Giving Day—surpassing a goal of 300—which unlocked another $5,000 for undergraduate research.

Campus partners contributed to additional challenges that generated strong engagement: nearly $29,000 was raised for the Battle Born Recruiting and Retention Fund by Campagni Auto Group along with Carson City Toyota and Capital Ford as donations came in from locations as far away as France and Abu Dhabi. Silver and Blue Outfitters provided prizes to Nevada Cheer ($5,000), Women’s Golf ($3,000), and Nevada Football ($2,000) based on donor numbers.

Celebrations were held at several campus locations including “the Joe,” School of Medicine, and Honors College to mark this year’s expanded reach. Vice President for University Advancement Tracy Ostrem said: “This is a day that truly touches every part of the University with the support we see come in from the Wolf Pack community… It’s a joy to come together with students, faculty and schools to celebrate the difference it will make for Nevada.”

Information about Giving Day or making future gifts is available on the University’s Giving Day website.
