U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris recently visited Nevada to tour Lake Mead and discuss climate change with state leaders.
Harris arrived in Southern Nevada on Oct. 18 with the purpose of discussing climate change as the state faces water shortages, KTNV reported. During her visit she saw Lake Mead and was briefed on the drought problem in the region.
Not everyone was thrilled with the vice president’s visit.
“Kamala Harris is using (climate change) as a reason for a trip to Lake Mead and Las Vegas. The huge bill for travel and accomodations (sic) won’t be a hoax. We get to pay for it,” Ron Donahoe wrote in an Oct. 19 Twitter post.
An ardent supporter of fighting climate change, Harris has also advocated in favor of the largest investment in climate resilience in the history of the country, the Build Back Better Agenda.
“When we look at what’s happening here we know this is about this lake, but it is about a region and about our nation,” Harris said, according to KTNV. “The infrastructure deal, combined with the Build Back Better Agenda, is about what we need to do to invest in things like water recycling and what we can do in terms of implementation of drought contingency plans. This is about thinking ahead, recognizing where we are and where we’re headed if we don’t address these issues with a sense of urgency.”
