Gov. Steve Sisolak recently proclaimed March 6-12 as School Social Work Week in the state.
Sisolak posted to Twitter to write that it was important to honor members of the education community who are crucial to their institution.
“I am proud to proclaim this week as ‘School Social Work Week’ in NV,” he said. “School Social Workers are vital members of the educational team, playing a central role in creating a positive school climate & vital partnerships between the home, school, & community.’’
The state legislature realizes that students are Nevada’s most crucial resource and sought to honor those within the school system that facilitate a robust school culture where students can maximize their potential, according to the proclamation.
Sisolak signed the proclamation Feb. 11which said that school social workers are adept at helping students overcome obstacles.
“Bringing together students, teachers, parents, school administrators and pupil services teams along with professional and community resources, school social workers help students realize their fullest potential in becoming educated and contributing members of society,” Sisolak said.
School social workers are vital to safeguarding students who may be enduring harassment, trauma or discrimination at their school institutions, Sisolak said.
