Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-NV) issued a message promoting goodwill ahead of the upcoming school year.
The message was aimed at families, educators, and school staff members.
The governor shared a video in which he wished everyone involved in the school process a great year, according to a press release from his office. He also provided an update on what the state of Nevada hopes to accomplish regarding education.
“As educators and students head back into classrooms, I want to take a moment to wish all Nevadans a successful start to this school year,” Sisolak said.
State officials implemented several measures “to ensure a successful 2022-2023 school year,” the press release noted. Funds from the American Rescue Plan will help the state provide free lunches throughout its school districts. The Nevada government earmarked $200 million to help students combat learning loss caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. An investment in teacher recruitment will provide stipends and tuition assistance to approximately 4,000 future teachers.
“I know there have been challenges – and I want to reassure families and schools that we are working hard to make sure every child in every classroom in every community gets a great education,” Sisolak said. “That goal has never wavered since I’ve been in office and it never will.”
