Gov. Steve Sisolak plans to end the COVID-19 state of emergency in Nevada.
If all goes according to plan, the state of emergency should conclude on May 20, Sisolak’s office said in a release.
“I am so grateful to all the Nevadans who worked through these trying times in service of the Silver State,” Sisolak said in the release.
Sisolak was pleased with the state government’s response throughout the coronavirus pandemic, Sisolak’s office said.
“The COVID-19 pandemic tried and tested our State on every level,” Sisolak said. “By working together across all levels of government and in every corner of the State, we kept prevented our healthcare system from becoming overwhelmed and continued to provide services to Nevadans in need.”
The state of emergency was put in effect during March 2020 and has permitted the Nevada government to handle issues created by the pandemic the moment they popped up, Sisolak’s office said. The government will continue to work with officials until the state of emergency ends to make sure services can continue running afterward.
Certain measures that arose due to the state of emergency will remain effect, Sisolak’s office reported. One such measure is Emergency Directive 11, which allows more leeway in hiring a variety of health care workers to help care for COVID-19 patients without the need for specific licensing requirements.
