Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak recently toured three air quality monitoring sites to spread awareness to Nevadans of the risk wildfire smoke poses to public health.
“I’m proud to work alongside so many advocates across the State of Nevada to combat climate change and mitigate the negative impacts,” Sisolak said in an Aug. 17 press release.
Sisolak first visited the Washoe County Health District’s air quality monitoring station, which is one of three sites in the country working with the Environmental Protection Agency to monitor air quality associated with wildfire. He also viewed the Reno4 National Core Multi-pollutant Monitoring Station, and the Reno Aces home field to learn about the Purple Air, Co. monitor used to measure air quality.
The stoprs are a part of the governor’s Nevada Climate Series 2022 with the goal to help teach Nevadans about climate change and how to lessen its impact, the release stated.
Sisolak pointed to the “worst air quality on record” stemming from the August 2021 Caldor Fire that hit Northern Nevada as to why it’s so important to take action now so families can be better prepared.
