Nevada will provide the Child Care and Development Program $50 million in additional funding to alleviate the cost of childcare.
The funding was approved by the Interim Finance Committee to establish the Nevada Child Care Fund, according to a July 7 news release.
“Nevada’s working families need support,” said Gov. Steve Sisolak. “This funding will help these families increase their household income, stay in their homes, support their families, and save for the future. Quality, affordable childcare is critical for the success of our kids, our families and will support our local businesses and economy by creating a more stable workforce.”
The objective of the fund is to expand the income eligibility limit for the childcare assistance program and decrease the amount paid out of pocket for eligible families, according to the release.
“The Department of Health and Human Services is working in a variety of areas to support childcare providers and families across the state,” said Karissa Loper Machado, agency manager of the Child Care and Development Program. “More families will be eligible for assistance than ever before.
