Nevada Men’s Golf freshman Riki Matsumoto was named Mountain West Freshman of the Week on Apr. 16 following his performance at the El Macero Classic in Davis, California.

The recognition highlights Matsumoto’s recent success and his contribution to Nevada’s golf program. Awards like this are given to student-athletes who show strong results and improvement during competition.

Matsumoto finished tied for seventh place with a score of two over-par 218, recording rounds of 75, 70, and 73. His play included a hole-in-one at the par three third hole during the first round, which measured 238 yards. This achievement helped him finish fourth among all competitors in par three scoring at the tournament. Matsumoto also moved up 39 spots in the Scoreboard collegiate rankings after this event.

This is Matsumoto’s second top-10 finish of the spring semester as he continues to establish himself as a key player for Nevada Men’s Golf.
