WASHINGTON – On May 31, 2023, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03) released the following statement after voting to pass the Bipartisan Budget Agreement out of the House to prevent a default on our national debt and to avert economic catastrophe:
“Defaulting on America’s debt, as some Republican extremists in Washington have threatened, is not an option. I voted to avoid an unprecedented crisis which would have sunk the U.S. economy, lost millions of jobs, diminished retirement savings for millions, and increased the cost of buying a home. As Vice-Chair of the bipartisan Problem Solvers Caucus, I’m committed to being a part of the solution, not the problem, and my vote reflects that commitment. This compromise puts people before politics to avoid a catastrophic default. It protects programs that Nevadans rely on, including Social Security, Medicare, veterans’ health care, and investments in clean energy and infrastructure. Now, the U.S. Senate must act quickly to send this agreement to President Biden’s desk so we can defuse the threat of default and get back to work for the American people.”
