A recent VCreek AMG LLC poll of likely Nevada voters showed that Republican Rep. Adam Laxalt would likely win a U.S. Senate election against incumbent Democrat Catherine Cortez-Masto if the race were held today.
The former Nevada Attorney General, Laxalt appears to have an advantage among independents with 41% of independents saying they would vote for him while just 26% supported Cortez-Masto. Overall, 42% of respondents said they would support Rep. Laxalt while just 32% said they would vote for Cortez-Masto. The remaining 25% were unsure.
The poll provides valuable insight into the upcoming election, which is expected to be an uphill battle for Cortez-Masto. The Democrat incumbent appears to be losing ground with independents particularly but is also starting to see shrinking numbers in other groups.
The poll also surveyed likely Nevada voters about their top issue for the upcoming midterms. The two issues that ranked first and second place were inflation/prices and securing the border against illegal immigration, coming in at 37% and 23% of people who said it was at the top of the list of issues needing to be addressed by politicians, respectively. When asked what was their second most important issue, Nevada voters said their top two runners-up were reducing crime and inflation/prices, at 39% and 22%, respectively. The poll also showed that 75% of likely Nevada voters said that inflation was “very important” for politicians to address.
The poll also indicates that a large majority (65%) of Nevadans agree that the recent federal spending spree will hurt the economy.
Cortez-Masto, who Fox News called “potentially the chamber’s most vulnerable Democrat in 2022,” has supported spending measures like the $3.5 trillion infrastructure package that focuses on social programs like government-run child care.
Regarding the Senate race, Laxalt said, “There’s no question that this seat can be the 51st seat. This seat can be the ultimate block to the Biden administration agenda and the radical left agenda that seems to be driving my senator, Catherine Cortez Masto, and President Biden.”
