Lane and sidewalk closures are set to begin on July 28 in Winnemucca as the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) undertakes pedestrian safety improvements. The work will occur on sections of Winnemucca Boulevard and Fourth Street, involving the installation of flashing pedestrian crossing beacons.

The closures will take place intermittently from July 28 through early fall, between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays. There may also be occasional evening and overnight closures. Affected areas include three crosswalk locations near the intersection of West Winnemucca Boulevard and West Fourth Street, as well as intersections at West Winnemucca Boulevard and Lay Street, and East Winnemucca Boulevard and Haskell Street/Fairgrounds Road.

Motorists should anticipate one-time road closures lasting up to 15 minutes at each location while signal arms are installed over the road. NDOT advises drivers to allow extra travel time and exercise caution in work zones.

The project includes installing electronic rapid flashing pedestrian crossing beacons that pedestrians can activate to stop traffic while crossing streets. Additional enhancements such as improved street lighting and pedestrian ramps will also be implemented in certain areas to improve safety for those traveling between local hotels, restaurants, businesses, and other destinations.
