Nevada health officials recently confirmed that the state has five confirmed positive cases of COVID-19’s omicron variant, according to a report on 8NewsNow.
Dr. Mark Pandori, director of the Nevada State Health Laboratory in Reno, verified three of the cases are in Clark County but added that additional information on other cases was unavailable at the time.
“Nevada health officials have confirmed the second case of the omicron variant in the state,” the City of Las Vegas announced on Twitter on Dec. 20. “Nev. State Public Health Laboratory says it was found in Churchill County. Last week, the first case was found in Clark County.”
The other two confirmed cases appeared in Washoe and Churchill counties.
The new variant is extremely infectious and is projected to spread aggressively, according to U.S. health officials.
The state’s first omicron case was identified last week, and the Southern Nevada Health District reported that the woman who caught the virus was out of the country throughout the virus’s incubation period.
The woman has been quarantined since returning to Clark County and has not been hospitalized.
Although the symptoms of the omicron variant are less severe than those of other COVID-19 strains, they are still highly transmissible among individuals, according to medical experts.
Doctors encourage patients to get their vaccinations, as well as a booster shot.
