A North Las Vegas man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison and five years of supervised release for distributing and possessing with intent to distribute more than 30 pounds of methamphetamine in the Las Vegas area. The sentencing was handed down by United States District Judge Gloria M. Navarro, following a government recommendation of 135 months.

Court documents state that Efrain Macias-Amaral entered the United States illegally. Between June and July 2024, he distributed and possessed over 15 kilograms of methamphetamine. On June 11, 2024, Macias-Amaral sold more than 2,000 grams of methamphetamine to an individual. He conducted another sale of the same amount on July 3, 2024.

On July 11, 2024, officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stopped a vehicle driven by Macias-Amaral. A search revealed a suitcase containing plastic baggies filled with a total of 11,026 grams of methamphetamine in the trunk. During this stop, Macias-Amaral presented police with a Mexican identification card under the name Juan Rea Estrada.

In April 2025, Macias-Amaral pleaded guilty to two counts of distribution of methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

“Acting United States Attorney Sigal Chattah for the District of Nevada and Deputy Special Agent in Charge Anthony Chrysanthis for DEA’s Los Angeles Division made the announcement.”

The case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Edward Penetar prosecuted the case.
