The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has announced updated traffic restrictions on Sunset Road, part of an ongoing pavement rehabilitation project. The work aims to improve nearly three miles of pavement between Las Vegas Boulevard and Annie Oakley Drive, enhancing safety and extending the roadway’s lifespan.
From November 24 to January 2, Sunset Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Sundays through Fridays. These restrictions apply between Las Vegas Boulevard and Eastern Avenue. There will also be intermittent turn lane closures at side streets between Gilespie Street and Spencer Street. No work is scheduled from November 27 through November 29 due to the Thanksgiving holiday.
Vehicles wider than 12 feet are advised to take alternate routes. During the day, multiple lanes will remain open in both directions to accommodate heavy traffic, especially near the airport connector.
This $12.9 million federally funded project includes milling and paving Sunset Road, lowering utilities, removing and replacing median islands, and upgrading striping and electrical items. NDOT collaborates with Waze to inform the public about planned highway restrictions.
Motorists are urged to exercise caution in work zones and consider detour routes when possible. The schedule may change due to weather or other factors.
