The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has issued an action alert to its members, urging them to contact their state senators as the Nevada State Legislature’s 2025 session nears its end. The focus is on Assembly Bill 388, which is currently under consideration by the Senate.
Assembly Bill 388 proposes an expansion of paid leave for both public and private employees in Nevada. The bill targets businesses with 50 or more employees, requiring them to adhere to increased leave entitlements, reduced employment requirements, and higher paid leave wages. Additionally, it includes provisions that allow for civil action against private employers.
The NFIB has expressed concerns about the potential impact of this mandate on businesses. According to the organization, “This mandate is both financially and administratively burdensome.” They warn that while the bill initially affects larger businesses, it could eventually extend its reach to all small businesses in Nevada.
The NFIB emphasizes that decisions regarding paid leave should be made by business owners rather than being dictated by legislative bodies in Carson City. Members are encouraged to take immediate action by contacting their senators to express their views on the proposed legislation.
