Nevada War Room announced on X that Governor Joe Lombardo is collaborating with the Trump administration to release federally owned land for the development of attainable housing.
According to the Nevada War Room’s post on X, this initiative aims to ensure more Nevada families can remain in the state across generations by directly addressing the housing shortage. The post highlights Lombardo’s dual focus on land access and long-term residency.
Governor Lombardo has noted that nearly 87% of Nevada’s land is owned by the federal government, complicating efforts to expand housing, particularly in major areas like Clark and Washoe counties. According to the Nevada Governor’s Office, this constraint threatens development: Washoe County may run out of available land by 2027, while Clark County could face a similar situation by 2032. This underscores the pressing need to unlock federal parcels for residential use to accommodate future population growth.
The National Low Income Housing Coalition reports that Nevada requires approximately 78,000 additional affordable rental homes for extremely low-income renters, illustrating one of the nation’s sharpest gaps between housing supply and demand. This shortage is corroborated in housing profiles showing only 17 affordable and available rental homes for every 100 extremely low-income households. These shortages are especially acute in fast-growing urban areas where land availability and development costs are already high.
