The Nevada War Room has expressed its support for Governor Joe Lombardo’s firm opposition to sanctuary state policies. This stance was highlighted in contrast to Attorney General Aaron D. Ford’s differing views on criminal penalties and immigration.
According to KOLO News, Governor Lombardo said that “Nevada will never be a sanctuary state,” emphasizing that his administration “has followed all federal laws and cooperated with federal immigration authorities” and intends to continue this practice. He issued this statement in response to a Department of Justice (DOJ) report labeling Nevada as a sanctuary jurisdiction—an assertion his office contested by pointing out that the state “has repeatedly reached out to the Department of Justice for clarification on its designation.” Lombardo stressed that this action is essential for maintaining the state’s cooperative relationship with the federal government.
The Nevada Independent reports that after Nevada was placed on the DOJ’s list of sanctuary jurisdictions, Lombardo strongly opposed the label in a post on X, declaring that the state “will never be a sanctuary jurisdiction.” The publication also noted that Attorney General Ford had previously supported a 2017 proposal aimed at limiting state and local cooperation with federal immigration enforcement, although the bill did not pass. This has become a focal point in current political debates, especially as the 2026 election approaches.
The Wall Street Journal reports that when the DOJ updated its sanctuary list in early August 2025, Nevada replaced Las Vegas as the state-level jurisdiction. This prompted Lombardo to reaffirm via X that “Nevada is not a sanctuary state and will never be a sanctuary jurisdiction under Governor Lombardo.” He further mentioned in his post that the state “continues to cooperate with federal immigration authorities” and has sought clarification from the DOJ to prevent any mislabeling. This response highlights concerns within his administration about potential risks to federal funding and damage to the state’s reputation due to incorrect classifications.
According to the Silver State Times, Nevada War Room is affiliated with Better Nevada PAC and serves as a political communications platform aligned with conservative policy initiatives. The outlet describes how it focuses on disseminating information related to Republican leadership and legislative developments in Nevada while actively promoting Gov. Lombardo’s agenda. It contrasts his positions with those of Democratic figures like Attorney General Ford, demonstrating its role in shaping public messaging and influencing electoral discourse within the state.
