The Nevada War Room announced on X that Governor Joe Lombardo is collaborating with the Trump administration to release federal land for new housing in Nevada. This initiative is part of a broader effort to pass bipartisan legislation aimed at expanding attainable housing.
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Nevada is experiencing a significant housing shortage, partly due to nearly 80% of its land being under federal control. This situation poses challenges for private and residential development. Governor Lombardo has prioritized addressing this issue as part of his administration’s housing strategy. The partnership with the Trump administration seeks to facilitate land releases, which would help expand housing access for Nevada’s growing population.
The Review-Journal reports that out of Nevada’s 70.3 million acres, approximately 56 million are managed by federal agencies, leaving less than 13% available for private or local use, including housing development. Clark County has repeatedly requested federal authorities to open new parcels to build thousands of homes for residents. The scarcity of land has resulted in higher housing costs and limited inventory, creating challenges for families seeking affordable homes.
Governor Lombardo recently signed bipartisan legislation designed to streamline regulatory processes and fund affordable home construction. According to the Review-Journal, this law aims to expedite building both single-family and multi-family residences at prices accessible to working families. These policy efforts are intended to complement federal land negotiations in addressing the root causes of Nevada’s housing crisis.
