Nevada War Room, affiliated with the Better Nevada Political Action Committee (PAC), announced that Governor Joe Lombardo is actively working to expand school choice in Nevada. The organization made this announcement in a post on X.
According to AP News, Governor Lombardo has made education reform a central focus of his administration, emphasizing the expansion of school choice options in Nevada. In his State of the State address, Lombardo proposed a $2 billion increase in education funding and the establishment of a new Office of School Choice to broaden educational opportunities for families. These initiatives aim to provide parents with more control over their children’s education and to improve overall educational outcomes in the state.
A poll conducted by RealClear Opinion Research in June 2023 found that 71% of registered voters nationwide support the concept of school choice, which allows parents to use public funding for the schooling option that best fits their child’s needs. The survey also revealed that 71% of Hispanic voters are in favor of school choice policies, indicating strong support among this demographic group. These findings suggest a broad consensus across different communities for expanding educational options.
In January 2025, Lombardo issued a proclamation recognizing January 26 to February 1 as “School Choice Week in Nevada,” highlighting the state’s commitment to providing diverse educational options. The proclamation emphasized that educational variety enhances community vibrancy and supports economic diversification efforts. This official recognition underscores the administration’s dedication to promoting school choice as a means to improve education in Nevada.
