Nevada Attorney General Aaron D. Ford has announced that the state will transition its victim notification system from VINE to Nevada S.A.V.E. Notifications.

“This much-needed change will help victims by implementing a more streamlined, customizable and efficient victim notification system,” said AG Ford. “Victims of crimes deserve the best tools possible to keep themselves safe, and the Nevada S.A.V.E. Notifications system will be a valuable tool for both victims and the public.”

The new system differs from VINE in that it is offender-based rather than incident-based. This means victims can register for notifications related specifically to an offender, rather than needing to register each time there is a new law enforcement incident involving them.

Nevada S.A.V.E. Notifications also offers additional features such as allowing users to set blackout dates or off hours when notifications will not be sent. The data collected through this system will be owned by the State of Nevada.

State law requires operation of a victim notification system, with sheriffs, chiefs of police, the Department of Corrections, Department of Public Safety, and State Board of Parole Commissioners all working together with the Office of the Attorney General to maintain it.

Current VINE users do not need to re-register for NV S.A.V.E. Notifications unless they registered through the VINE app; those individuals will need to sign up again for notifications under the new system.
