Nevada Men’s Tennis secured a 4-3 victory over No. 65 Grand Canyon University on April 17 in Reno, highlighted by Greg Valente’s comeback win at the McArthur Tennis Center.
The match was important as it marked the Wolf Pack’s final contest of the regular season and provided momentum ahead of the upcoming Mountain West Championship. Nevada now holds a record of 10-10 overall and 1-6 in conference play.
The teams were closely matched throughout, with each side splitting the first set across all six singles matches. Axel Huysmans gave Nevada an early boost with a straight-set win at No. 1 singles, while Rémy Trégourès followed up with another victory at No. 2 to tie the dual at two points apiece.
As pressure mounted, Nicolas Recoura delivered for Nevada by winning his match at No. 5 after a tight second-set tiebreaker, evening the overall score to three-all. The deciding point came down to Valente on Court 4, who recovered from losing a close first-set tiebreaker to claim the next two sets against Daniel Jankoski and secure both his individual win and Nevada’s team victory.
With this result, Nevada prepares to compete in Las Vegas for next week’s Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship, where they will face top-seeded Utah State on Wednesday, April 22.
